The scope of this project is to construct a new recreational complex on a 25-acre site to include new building facility as well as a complete site design of sporting fields complex. The building facility is to be constructed in the same location as the existing 22,800 square foot facility that is to be demolished. The new facility will house a gymnasium, several multi-purpose rooms, dance studio, play rooms, restrooms, administrative staff spaces, two racquetball courts, kitchen, and entry lobby. This facility is designed to entertain various recreational sports and activities for the city’s youth, adults, seniors and staff. The new site athletic complex will include lighted playing fields for soccer, baseball and softball, concession and restroom buildings to service all sporting events, and other amenities associated with athletic fields.
The City of Fort Walton Beach’s goal is to consolidate its recreational facilities and athletic fields scattered throughout the city limits and accommodate their functions and uses into the new recreational complex. Closing and consolidating the existing, aging centers is more cost effective than making the repairs and the savings generated would be enough to benefit on the new facility.
